So what’s their secret to maintaining a healthy lifestyle without slipping into bad habits?
Firstly, there’s no reason why you can’t have a healthy lifestyle. It’s not unachievable — regardless if you’re on a budget and don’t want to fork out for a gym membership. This lifestyle doesn’t just apply to athletes or fitness fans. A common misconception is that a healthy lifestyle means losing weight and eating right. It’s more than that. It’s a permanent change to your life. This could involve: clean eating, exercising, not smoking, not drinking, and a new attitude.
The problem for most people is maintaining healthy habits and successfully kicking-out the old ones. Usually, this is because of doing too much, too fast. Cutting out every single bad-habit at once is tough for anyone. If it’s too testing, try one at a time, week by week.
Schedule a Fitness Routine
No, this doesn’t mean overworking yourself into fatigue every day. Forcing yourself to do too much will only make you resent what you’re doing. Eating regularly and controlling the size of your portions is one of the best formulas to keeping yourself healthy. Try not to skip important meals — like breakfast — that will make you uncontrollably hungry throughout the day. This will usually result in snacking in between meals. Although snacking shouldn’t be demonised, eating fatty or sugary foods isn’t the most healthy way to go. Swap out chocolate for a yogurt, a handful of nuts, or even dried fruit.
Drink Enough Water
As adults, we’re advised to drink between 1.5 – 2 litres of water a day. If you’re working out and breaking a sweat, we have to drink even more! About 60 percent of the human body is made up of water, so it’s normal that we need a lot of it. But apart from the obvious, there are more benefits to it than we think.
An age-old tactic to maintain healthy skin is to drink enough water. It seems simple, but so many of us neglect doing it. Without it, our skin becomes dehydrated and more susceptible to premature wrinkling and skin disorders. It also helps to flush out any bad toxins lingering around the body.
Of course, water will help you to perform better during physical activity and could also have a hand in weight loss. Regardless, we need water to survive, so get drinking!
Find a Hobby
Healthy living doesn’t always mean being fit, it also means being happy — and finding a hobby can make sure that both are ticked off. We all need to let off some steam from the stress of daily life. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people and positive energy will make the transition into a healthy lifestyle so much smoother.
If you’re not a fan of going to the gym, joining a physical hobby is another great way to get into shape. Finding a club that you can join will improve your social skills and give you time to unwind. Hobbies like dancing, yoga, martial arts, football, hiking, or water sports are among some of the best ways to feel happy — physically and mentally. Your hobby can also trickle into your personal life, making you more confident and productive in everything that you do.
